Dr. David Brake, NEAH CEO, is also the Founder and President of BioQuest Associates, LLC., a veterinary vaccine consulting company. Founded in 2004, BioQuest provides personalized, scientific consultant services to government, industry, academic, and non-profit organizations with missions in the veterinary biological sector. With over 3 decades of experience in veterinary biologics, Dave has a vast knowledge of veterinary vaccine R&D from product concept to commercialization.
For nearly two decades, Dr. Brake has served as a scientific consultant to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology, Plum Island Animal Disease Center. Dave has provided technical, project management, subject matter expertise and regulatory guidance for several transboundary animal and zoonotic disease vaccine and diagnostic projects. He also provides personalized consultancy services to clients in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries with missions in the veterinary biologics sector.
From 1990-2003, Dr. Brake was employed in the animal health industry where he initially worked as a research immunologist at SmithKline Beecham Animal Health, followed by 8 years at Pfizer Animal Health (now Zoetis) where he held several scientific and management positions in Veterinary Medicine Biological Discovery and Biological Development. During his 13 years in the veterinary biologics private sector, Dave worked on numerous new vaccines for livestock and companion animals and has numerous scientific publications in the areas of veterinary immunology, veterinary virology, immunoparasitology, and animal vaccinology.
Dr. Brake holds a BS in Biology, completed a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology (Drexel College of Medicine) on T-cell immunity to malaria, and completed a NIH post-doctoral fellow in the field of HIV-1 molecular genetics at SmithKlineBeecham. Dave previously served on the Vaxin Inc. (now Altimmune Inc.) Board of Directors and since 2010 has served as a scientific advisory board member for the Michelson Found Animals Prizes and Grants.
